Project Description
Students opined on the implications of unequal access to education in the world.
Word from the Changemaker
Personal Article by Benjamin Z.
In the last couple of years, education has been significantly impacted by the pandemic where distance learning was implemented across the world. Even before the pandemic, education inequality was already a global issue with the funding gap between many schools. Distance learning amplified this problem because not everyone had access to the necessary resources for distance learning. For example, some students may have not had access to the internet or a device to conduct distance learning. This is important because education is so important as it is pretty much helps our future. This is why things such as volunteer tutor programs are so important because they provide more opportunities to those who may not have as many. This was why I decided to join a tutoring program as I wanted to help those who were greatly affected by the pandemic in the education aspect of it. Through the volunteer tutoring program that I joined, I was able to learn more about each of my students and learn about some of the struggles that they faced. I learned that they did not get the necessary help from some of their teachers and that they were slowly falling behind in their education due to the lack of resources. I was definitely not the best tutor when I first started as I still had to improve on many things. However, over time I was able to improve and adapt my tutoring style to each specific kid and focus on some of the struggles that they faced. The kids and their parents also provided me with feedback on how their child was slowly doing better in school and that was great to hear. Overall, I am still tutoring and trying my best to help these kids with what they need so that they can work towards their goals without the worry of them not having the proper resources.
